Well if you are into fashion, then suit yourself, but in my opinion style is where it is at. Fashion moves and changes with time, it is fluid. And how tiring it must be for fashion lovers to constantly have to keep up with trends. But that is a topic for another day. Style on the other had; style is forever. And what if I told you that your style as a human being is at its best the closer you are to your grave? Sound ridiculous? Hear me out for a minute. They say style is like fine wine, it gets better with time. The older we grow, the more confident we become. The longer our existence on this planet, the wiser we become and thus, we care less about what people think of us. If that is the case, then who better to inspire our style than women who have lived long enough for their closets to tell a story of decades? Women who are so grounded and confident in themselves, that their clothes have no option but to submit under their majesty. The following senior citizens will show you that old age is just the beginning of a true and authentic life. These women will show you that old age only makes you and your wardrobe more characterful.
Iris Apfel
This 100-year old is the epitome of living life to the fullest and it completely shows in how she chooses to style herself. From bold prints, oversized jewellery, to her look-at-me fur coats, this style icon does not believe in playing it small. Iris calls herself an accidental style icon because it was never her intention to be known and noticed for. It was only through her living her most authentic life, that she has come to be known and inspires so many to be fully themselves. When defining style, she states, “ Style is attitude, attitude, attitude. It ain’t what you do. It’s the way they you do it.” And if there is one thing you can take from this icon, it is definitely her approach to life. When asked what three words define her approach in life, she said, “Only one trip! Might as well live it up!” So be bold and daring with your life and style. You only live once.
Linda Rodin
This 73-year old beauty mogul believes in keeping things simple. She sees herself is a turtleneck and sneaker type of girl. Her go to uniform is anything denim, from denim pants, tops and jackets. She believes that big sunglasses and a bold lipstick will take any outfit from ordinary to a stunner. When it comes to creating your style, she believes that you should firstly know your body, know what suits you and only wear what makes you feel good about yourself. She also suggests that you hold onto your statement pieces because in years to come you might wish you never got rid of them.
